Photo of dozens of blue doll eyes with eyelashes. They each lie in a tiny plastic cup.

bright day
clocks
nuzzled into his breast
to escape the vile wind,
glass
doors
swirl gritty dust
old rag mats.
seldom working,
electric current
slowly,
eyes
follow you
WATCHING YOU,

Shiksha Dheda is a South African of Indian descent. She uses writing to express her OCD and depression roller-coaster ventures. Sometimes, she dabbles in photography, painting, and baking lopsided layered cakes. She rambles annoyingly on Twitter @ShikshaWrites. You can find (or ignore her) at https://shikshadheda.wixsite.com/writing.

Why we chose this piece: The words Shiksha selected for this erasure and the resulting formatting hits really hard for us. The phonemes in the chosen words are oddly satisfying. The mood she evokes is creepy, and the negative space provides as much of an atmosphere as the words do. As a note, the source material she used is from 1984 by George Orwell, which we think is a nice touch.
